Petomato – cool way to grow delicious stuff and recycle at the same time

petomato

Petomato is a great new way to combine eco recycling and home horticulture in one easy kit. The idea is you use any old plastic bottle you have lying around, insert the specially customized cap and hydroponic holder, add your choice of seeds and you’re off to the races growing stuff on the nearest sunny ledge in your home.

There are seven growing kits to choose from, including ones for cherry tomatoes, yummy basil and also habanero peppers for the brave. The whole thing comes with a comprehensive set of instructions, even including pollinating your hydroponically grown produce, which also makes it a great educational tool for children.

What’s more it actually seems to work. Judging by the photos on the site, you can actually grow stuff which looks good enough to eat. Yes of course you can do all this with a simple set of kitchen implements and save yourself the money, but since we assume the kit can be used and reused, we’re thinking it’s a great way to introduce the family to the joys of home grown food.

Take a look at the very weird video below to almost get an idea of the product in action. The kits cost $14.99 each.
