Photos a go go.

Fotopic

The good folk at fotopic.net are now offering an instant mobile phone photo upload service. Snap and send for instant display. These techs are cool, we need more of them. Also worth looking at the FlexWindow service. Free for personal use.

  • Let’s not forget Cognima’s Snap product (www.cognima.com). I have a demo account that I’d love to give you the address of, but I think I’d get my ass kicked.

A most excellent client for uploading and managing online photos.

  • Forgot to say – Cognima doesn’t use MMS, so you get the hi-res pic (or super long video) and synchonisation of meta-data between the handset and web. Data includes captions, location……..

You can also manage where your pics are published from the mobile client.

  • Superb Rob, I just checked out the BonusPrint Mobile site and it looks like a fab service. Thanks.

What I’d really like though is the ability to annotate photos first with text and then upload them to a pre-allocated space on my web site (on a kind of rolling blog basis). It can’t be hard to do, so I suppose someone will come up with something soon. :-)

  • Cognima does it. You can add the comment when you take the pic, when you upload it or later. Just go to the phone’s memory, find the pic/video and add the comment.

So, when you take a pic/vid the Snap UI kicks in and asks whether you want to load it to your web album. It’s as simple as that. The media is loaded in the background and if interrupted, will continue where it left off. At anypoint you can tell the service you want to share it in your public journal or any one of your user defined ‘closed user group’ shared albums. I have one for friends and one for family in my test account.

Default captions are the time, date and location at the point of media capture. The location is a simple case of adding the area code the client gets from cell broadcast and the server turns that into a placename.

All super cool. I could ask the CEO if it’s OK to give you an account.

    Rob.

  • Hmm…very interesting, Rob. Maybe I should take a look…..? :-)
