The Raspberry Pi is one of the most versatile computers with the cutest name, and people are using the ultra low price device to make all sorts of cool stuff, including tiny robots and other unusual things. Something about this tiny little guy just breeds innovation. But if you’re only a casual user of technology trying to break into more advanced electronics, it can all seem a bit intimidating. Enter the Pi-Top, a DIY laptop based around the Raspberry Pi.
This project has blown through its crowdfunding target but won’t be available until May of 2015 but it’s worth the wait. The Pi-Top uses the Raspberry Pi as its base and comes with all the parts needed to build a simple laptop. It’s an open source computer whose main goal is really to help users learn how to build hardware and code. It’s like practical training for the cyberpunk future. It comes with all the parts you need to make your own laptop and as a bonus, if you don’t like the case it came with you, you can 3D print your own. The future!
The final product features a 13.3 inch screen, 6-8 hours of battery, a built in trackpad (of course, you have to build it in) and all the essentials like a power supply and keyboard. This little guy is ready to rock wherever you are. The Pi-Top is $285.
