Plastic is getting everywhere. Even rocks! A new kind of stone has formed dubbed plastiglomerates and it is made from all the normal things such as minerals, sand, shells, etc all held together with a melted plastic.

This rock has been found washed up on beaches in Hawaii and is caused by melted plastic mixing with other things before it cools. The resulting form is a sort of rock, all fused together. But you can still see what the plastic used to be on some samples.

Toothbrushes, ropes, nets, bottles, you name it. Plastic is really far spread so it’s impossible to figure out where these particular samples came from. The heat that originally caused the plastic to melt could have been from anything. Regardless, this is very interesting but a reminder to limit your plastic where you can.
