PROGO 3000 – propane powered scooter offers 20mph, 40 mile range and eco friendly emissions too

005

What with all this talk of electric cars and vehicles, it’s hard to remember that there are other clean burn energy alternatives which will also help the planet while getting us around and about. Which is where this new PROGO 3000 comes in.

This small portable scooter offers up a really solid set of specs, but instead of using electric power it uses the widely available propane tanks commonly used for camping stoves and caravans. This has a number of advantages. First, it’s very easy just to switch one out when they are depleted, unlike having to charge up a battery. The 25cc propane motor used in this one is also very efficient, hence the 40 mile range and 20 mph top speed.

But it’s also the fact that propane is ultra safe and eco friendly that makes the whole thing a nice idea. It’s a much safer fuel than gasoline, and doesn’t even contain carbons, so there’s almost no emissions impact from using it as a propellant. And you can pick the little canisters up in just about any high street or major store, which is very cool.

The only real downside we can see is the price of thing, which at $450 or so, makes it more than a casual impulse buy. But for those performance specs (let’s face it with that range you could almost use it as a commuter) it’s actually not bad. And the gas cylinders are only $3.60 each, which makes this a pretty cheap transport method per mile. Nice!
