If youre in college right now and have ever heard any news flash from the head office about weather or whatever, you know how fast word gets around. IntelliGuard had a really awesome idea to keep students and staff informed about school emergencies within 15-20 seconds of it being issued. It’s called the RAVENAlert Keychain. This can be both a great way to get word out if there is a threat of any kind, but also kind of silly since there is usually a mass text that is sent out from the school.
Its a little keychain that has a wireless network that will broadcast news, instructions, and updates. While I know personally that we dont really need these as students, there are likely protective parents who want to keep their kids safe. Not all students sign up for texts for school updates, and a lot of times emails for delays and bad weather often are sent out on email alphabetically. When there are several tens out thousands of students, and you have a T last name, you might not get that email about campus closing at 1pm until hours later. Theres a good chance that this little keychain would be very helpful, but if you just sign up for the services the school provides, you should be fine.
