Recipe Puppy – ingredient based search engine

search homepage

By Friday night dinner time, most households probably find themselves in a similar situation – running out of common ingredients to make a quick and appealing meal. You could spend time Googling for a recipe that you actually have all the ingredients for but wouldn’t it be better if someone did all that tedious searching the internet for you?

That’s what the helpful Recipe Puppy promises. Enter your ingredients and see what comes up. And because Recipe Puppy is a search engine it searches all the recipe websites using your chosen ingredients. Alternatively ask the Puppy to tell you how to make a given food, say a gluten-free cheesecake, and you’ll get results of keyword searches across those databases and you can choose whichever looks the most tasty. Best of all, the Recipe Puppy won’t eat half the ingredients on the way to the kitchen.

Recipe Puppy is a tool for finding recipes. Is your fridge nearly empty? You can use Recipe Puppy to find recipes that don’t require a trip to the store. It can find recipes that fit your dietary requirements or combine two seemingly unrelated ingredients. Recipe Puppy makes it easy to find the recipes you actually want.

  • Tried grilled chicken breast as a search. Got every recipe the world knows for chicken breasts. It was like it ignored "grilled". No time for that.

    • @Joey : Hmm, I wondered about this too, but it seems if you do a "keyword" search for grilled chicken breast (no quotes) off the Advanced option page you will get better results … the first of which is "Grilled Chicken Breast w/Rosemary and Thyme" – since "grilled" really isn't an ingredient but more like a keyword for the results, no? It is annoying that the keyword search (and reasons for doing so) isn't clearer off the homepage. But then it *is* still in beta …
