ReminderFox – it’s like having a digital butler installed on your computer [Freeware]

There’s always something else to do, to fix, to sort out. No matter how fast we run, tasks build up and events need remembering. If you’re like us you’ll already be using something like Google Calendar to help out, but good as it is, it doesn’t really give enough flexibility for coping with every eventuality.

Which is one of the reasons we like ReminderFox so much. This small freeware tool integrates with the Firefox web browser to provide a really comprehensive set of reminder and To-Do features, and it’s the level of customization that really makes it stand out.

The default interface is really clean and easy to use, which means you can be up and running in minutes. Setting up a reminder is a one click affair, all you have to do is set the time, duration, repeat intervals and set a category. That’s it. Once it’s done the program will faithfully act like Mr Jeeves and keep reminding you of your important tasks and dates as ordered.

The amount of options you can set is truly excellent. Not just time, repeat and type of alarm, but you can also set the importance level, and even trigger a website URL if that is an important part of your task. Perfect for things like paying tax bills on time, using your online bank, or anything that involves logging in to get a job done.

We also like the actual reminders, because they give you a single click option to acknowledge and snooze, as well as dismiss, which is again perfect if you’re happy to finish off what you’re doing first, but don’t want to forget the task completely. And of course, like all the best digital butlers, this one will nag and nag until you do the job or cancel. No more Mr Lazy.

We also like the Quick Alarm function which lets you set up an instant alarm/timer function with a couple of clicks, very useful for getting something done (or out of the oven?) in a few minutes time. It’s so easy to forget right? All in all this is an excellently written program, and something that could become indispensable for the easily forgetful.
