Brooklyn artist Adam Frank has created a system called REVEAL that simulates the sunlight and shadows of a window frame and swaying branches on your inside home, apartment or office walls. It’s a simple spotlight with two slots in front of it – one in front of the other. Insert a thin metal sheet (gobo if you want to get technical) that’s cut to resemble the silhouette of tree branches into the back slot. Then slip another slide cut to resemble a window frame into the front slot. When projected onto a wall, presto – you have a fairly sharp looking shadow of a window frame, with less-defined shadow branches behind it.
The light itself evokes natural sunlight and air currents passing through the projector cause the branch shadows to sway slightly. The system gives you one window slide and one branch slide. For variety, there’s a collection that features four other window slides and four other types of branches that let you mix and match to help brighten up any room without a view. This is REVEAL’s first edition, which is limited to 1,000 units at $380 US each. The additional Windows & Views Collection is $50.
Reveal is a new type of ambient interior lighting. This product creates the impression of sunlight streaming through a window and onto an interior wall. A light breeze appears to move through trees in the cast image.
