Photo-Me, the mega passport photo booth people, have just announced a new edition to their portable launderette products for the high street. The Revolution Container is a recycled shipping container which holds four washing machines and two dryers capable of offering launderette services from supermarket, gas station and other forecourts. The 5.5 tonne box – which fits into 2 car parking spaces – is designed to be functional rather than beautiful, but the owners hope that it will provide a solid addition to the 3000+ other compact launderettes they operate around the world.
One of the main eco credentials for this type of ‘drop and wash’ system is the fact that it can do a complete wash of duvets, pillows and blankets in a cycle of just 30 minutes. This is combined with a specially designed ‘frugal’ washing liquid pump which is designed to deliver exactly enough to do the wash. Probably the coolest part is the fact that the machines will send you an SMS when the wash or drying cycle is finished. That’s what we call 24/7 service. Scheduled for deployment from October 2020, and perfect for our new socially distanced washing needs.
