Climate change is already effected the coasts of the world. We often talk about the rising sea levels in relation to the people who will be displaced. This is absolutely an issue but even now the rising ocean water is doing massive ecological damage, destroying plants and displacing animals.

Trees and many plants that live near coasts cannot survive on seawater the same way that despite living along the water’s edge, people cannot survive on seawater. As the water rises, it sinks into the soil and slowly, native plant life begins to die out. This isn’t the only factor though.

Drought and wildfires are two things that speed up the process and ironically, those are two things that we’re going to be seeing more of in the future with climate change. The spaces that were once forests are being replaced with marshes which are beneficial in their way but aren’t the trees that were lost.
