Rukus Solar – sun powered loudspeaker features loud sound and an e-Ink display

We’re big fans of cutting the cord and switching to alternative energy wherever possible, which is why the Rukus Solar Portable Bluetooth Solar Sound System caught our fancy. This bad boy is not only wireless, but it is also solar powered, so you’ll never need to fiddle with cords ever again, or so we hope.

At first glance, you’ll notice a 260cm² solar panel on the back of the device, which is how it gathers the sun’s energy if you aren’t very aware of such things.  When fully charged by just solar power alone users should be able to get up to 8 hours of playtime, which is a fair amount compared to other wireless Bluetooth loudspeaker systems.

There are downsides to this solar powered system though, which could put you off. You see, charging the device via solar energy takes up to 6 hours in direct sunlight, and 9 hours in indirect sunlight. I mean, where in the world does one get consistent sunlight for 6 straight hours? Luckily, the traditional charging mechanism via a power cord is still available, so you won’t have to miss out on listening to your favorite tracks during the day (or night).

The speaker system supports conventional Bluetooth, so you can hook it up to your smartphone or BT compatible MP3 player and jive away as you want.  If you’re interested in purchasing this most elegant product, be prepared to remove £199 from your pocket.
