Rust Powered – new breakthrough uses rust as secret ingredient in hydrogen fuel

The world runs on energy. A lot of it and we need to move away from emission causing energy sources. Hydrogen fuels have been one that researchers look towards. A new breakthrough using, of all things, rust lead to a massive production of hydrogen that is potentially safer.

Using a certain type of rust as the catalyst, creates 25 times more fuel than the standard catalyst of titanium. This method also appears to be safer as it stops the gas from re-coupling with the oxygen so that explosions can be stopped. And less explosions is absolutely a good thing.

The development is still being researched but it is a very promising avenue for clean energy. The process causes no emissions. It may seem like the stuff of a science fiction novel but it’s becoming closer and closer to reality.
