S.E.L.F.I.E – magic mirror automatically takes your photo, posts it to Twitter

Selfie Mirror

Taking a selfie is serious business. Five minutes on the internet will teach you that. But imagine for a moment if you could take one without your phone showing up in the picture or the odd outstretched selfie arm angle. Well the guys at iStrategyLabs have created just that with S.E.L.F.I.E. – The Self Enhancing Live Feed Image Engine.

The short version is, it’s a mirror that takes your photo and posts it to the web for you. Yeah, a smart tech mirror, crazy right?

This is accomplished by combining a Mac Mini computer for the facial recognition bit, a webcam, and LED lights powered by an Arduino computer that work as your visual timer. All of these components are nestled safely behind a one way mirror in what looks like a medicine cabinet. All you have to do is stand in the right spot, smile for a certain amount of seconds to let the smile recognition trigger the shutter, and you’re done. Instant fame.

Selfie Mirror Inside

Really, I’m surprised that no one has thought of this before. This could be made at home if you have all the parts and a bit of know-how. If you’re a really prolific selfie taker, it might be worth the hassle. This is currently classified as an experiment, so there’s no price listed, but if you’re interested in having one for your very own, than iStrategyLabs invites you to contact them.

  • Hmmm, one of your house guests happens to smile in front of the mirror and “click click click”. You’ll have some explaining to do to have a hidden camera in a washroom haha

    • LOL. Oops. Just doing some research, m’dear. :)

  • I guess it sounds pretty strange that in this social media connected world, where every single person you see is connecting to that media with their phone-equipped of course with a camera, that I have NEVER taken a selfie, maybe because I haven’t had a cell in years. Maybe the need for “selfies” began from disconnecting ourselves from people in person, to connecting with them through social media. My 3 kids (all grown) have taken plenty of selfies- my 2 GranDudes & GranDiva have Curio tablets with cameras, no doubt being goofy for selfies. Maybe I’ll get caught up in it myself….after I get a cell of course (>‿◠)✌

  • Disgusting. Encouraging narcissism isn’t to be lauded.
