Sandwichbike – The wooden bicycle that comes in a box

Sandwichbike

We don’t normally think of a box as a normal way to ship a bicycle but flat-packing and assembling at home is what it’s all about with this wooden bike that rode from concept to reality.

In 2006, designer Basten Leijh dreamed up the idea of the Sandwichbike,  a bicycle that could be packed flat. It was a creative project that gained so much attention that he eventually decided there was a customer base interested in owning and riding a bike made mostly of two wooden plates.

While the novelty of a flat-packed bicycle wears off soon after it’s unpacked and assembled, this is a bike that’s built to last, with the beech plywood weather-coated to endure both sun and rain.

Designed more for cruising city streets than going off-road, we imagine the unique styling of the eye-catching frame will have plenty of people flagging you down to ask questions about your ride.

You can unpack your very own Sandwichbike for €799/$1096.63.
