ShareMiner – the search engine for files only

Shareminer

ShareMiner. So this is a Google Custom Search based engine which trawls the file upload services and returns results for files, and only files. Think of it as shedding light on a little more of the dark web. And the darn thing works well. The key seems to be the selection of filters you can apply to the results to ensure that you obtain just the files you’re looking for.

Which means that this is a little treasure of a service if you want to find obscure stuff like album art covers, or freeware and shareware. Now of course you can do all this yourself if you want to spend time with Google’s special search criteria, but why bother when this front end has it all there waiting? Definitely a cool piece of coding all round, and I installed the Firefox search tool plugin immediately. Nice.

What is the difference between ShareMiner and other search engines available on the Internet? Most of Internet search engines look through the contents of all web pages, while ShareMiner looks through the names of files available on specific websites that are likely to contain the file you are looking up. If you are searching for the name of a particular content (or a game) on web, you will most likely find the description of it rather the game itself. ShareMiner.com allows you to find an actual file that you can download.
