SnipDock – cute free Windows utility is great for those with a poor memory [Freeware]

Often when we’re plowing through our work here at Ferret Towers, we’ll have so many tabs, windows and programs open that we kind of get lost in the clutter. It’s not that we’re getting old or anything you understand, it’s just hard to keep track. But now we’ve just found a tool which can help.

SnipDock is a small free utility which lets you snip a part of any Windows screen, and then store it in full view at the edge of your screen in a dock. Why, you ask? Well for one thing it’s great for keeping reference data close at hand. So for instance if you were working on a report involving multiple currencies, you can keep the relevant one permanently within eyeshot at the edge of the screen.

It’s also really easy to use. Just find the data you want to grab, click the Snip Screen button, outline the content and let go of the mouse button. At which point it’s automatically grabbed for the dock. You can also zoom in or out on the data using the mouse button which is cool.

Once it’s grabbed, the content will remain within view until you clear it or close the program, and you can set the software to dock left, right or float around the screen wherever you need it. It’s a simple kind of tool, but rather like ruler and colorpickers, it’s something that could easily become indispensable for certain people. It’s definitely gone into our permanent toolbox.
