Something Pop – cool free mathematical tool helps you make optimum decisions in life

We all have to make decisions, right? Some are important (like does this shirt make me look fat?) and some not so much. After all who cares if you run for president. Really. And we each have our own way of making the big choices in life, using a pin, a lucky Shamrock, asking the lady down the post office. counter. But now there’s a pretty cool alternative.

Something Pop is a free online service which lets you set up a set of of priorities in your life, and then add in some options (e.g. give up the job, move to a new city, marry Lady Gaga) after which you can juggle the data to see which outcome meets your goals best.

It’s a cool idea, and of course it’s using some fairly standard math in the background, which most of us would use anyway if we knew how to do it. But we don’t. So this tool gives us some clear thinking when it counts. Of course there’s nothing to say that clear thinking delivers the best results, because we all know that emotion and gut feelings are also valid parts of our cognitive processes.

But at the end of the day, any tool which can give us a bit more ammunition to justify buying that huge outboard motor or new Mustang works for us. After all we can sit and tweak the settings all day until we get the right result. In fact the only thing the tool is missing is an auto ‘Convince The Partner’ button, which will spit out a nicely formatted page with colored charts, graphs and lots of cool formulas on it to help present the case. Golden!
