SOS Mobile Phone with GPS Tracker – keep tabs on your loved ones while giving them some space and a teddy bear

It’s easy to forget how confusing the world can be to the very young and the very elderly, especially if you can’t always be there to keep a watchful eye out for their movements. You also may not want to seem to oppressive about your monitoring, which is where technology can come into play and help make it work more easily.

This SOS Mobile Phone with GPS Tracker is about 1/3 the size of a normal mobile phone, but also contains a full blown SIRF Star III GPS satellite receiver/tracker. The phone part of the device is a standard GSM mobile, with 5 preset numbers for general use including a specific emergency SOS number. If the SOS number is activated by the user, then a text message containing the GPS coordinates of the phone is also automatically sent out at the same time.

The phone is powered by a standard 800mAh Lithium battery which should deliver around 2 days standby, and you can trigger a GPS location text by sending an SMS to the phone to get an idea of where the handset is at any particular time. If you need even more information, it’s possible to listen in on conversations using the phone as a remote mic, which will please those who enjoy eavesdropping and stuff like that.

The product costs $45.02 / £29.59, and comes in any color you like as long as it’s a rather garish orange. Oh and with a teddy bear. The makers are clearly targeting children with the product, although the blurb mentions elderly people tracking too, so maybe the teddy bear on the front has universal appeal?
