Speedfan freeware monitors your laptop to keep it cool [Daily Freeware]

The one fact they don’t tell you in the marketing blurb is the fact that laptops run hot. Very hot. In fact, as they get older, the accumulation of dust inside tends to restrict airflow and impair the running of the internal fans and so the laptop gets even hotter than it should. The eventual result can be a burnt out component or even a fire. I took a laptop in for repair a while back and the tech guys told me that most of their work consists of re-seating or replacing overheated components.

One way you can try and minimize the potential damage is to use a laptop cooler, but that can be clunky and a hassle to carry around. Another solution is to install a software program to manage the cooling fans and this is where Speedfan comes in. This clever freeware monitors your fans and components and adjusts the fan speed to keep the laptop running as cool as possible. It’s also pretty useful as a monitoring system, so you can check to see why your machine is burning your legs or starting to sound like a Cessna aircraft on take-off. You can even create custom alerts for different states, which is neat.

  • speedfan doesnt work with laptops. so this guide is useless

    • Wow really? That's fascinating, since I'm running it on my DELL laptop RIGHT NOW!
