Standard Ebooks – bringing the classics into modern formatting

If you have an e-reader of any kind then you’ve probably discovered there’s a lot of free books out there which includes a ton that are in the public domain. The problem with PD books though is that they’re often terribly formatted for e-readers. Standard Ebooks is the site that is looking to change that.

This group takes public domain works and brings them into the modern world while still offering them for free. They clean up the text so it’s more inline to what today’s readers are used to seeing which in turn makes it easier to dive in to. They even throw on a nice cover.

The books remain free and can be downloaded in a number of formats to work with different readers. A very cool project that will go a long way to keep classic works alive. If you want to work with them, they have a system to report missed typos and errors. They also have more advanced options to help reformat books for upload if you really want to get hands on. Check out the website for more information.
