Stuff Happens Everything you wanted to know about backing up your computer

While working as an IT professional, the words I hated hearing most were I don’t have a backup. They were usually followed by saddened face asking if I’d be able to recover their precious files. Sure, I was able to recover some or all of the data in a lot of cases, but a good old fashioned hard drive failure is something one can’t compete with. There are companies that specialize in recovering files from hard drive platters, but they cost a pretty penny. The only real solution is to have backups of your files before the drive dies.

With so many types of backups to run, and storage options, it can be a bit overwhelming. Thankfully the people over at MakeUseOf have crafted an in-depth guide that explores many of the options currently available to you. This includes storing your backed up files locally, as well as online. It explains the difference between full, differential and incremental backups and more. Available as a PDF, you’re free to download it and read it at your leisure. If you don’t currently have a backup system in place for your files, I highly recommend giving this a read.
