The Allergy Season Is Longer – climate change is giving the gift of pollen

Seasonal allergies getting you down? Seem like you’re dealing with them longer than you did in past years? Well it’s not in your head. Allergy season really is lasting longer and getting worse thanks to the climate crisis.

Pollen is produced over the spring and summer by a variety of plants. It’s part of their reproductive cycle. Some of these plants produce pollen that causes very uncomfortable reactions in humans commonly refereed to as hay fever. Not only is climate change making the pollen season longer, because it’s warmer, but also it is giving a boost to some of the plants that give the worst type of pollen, like ragweed.

What this means is that allergy sufferers are in for a long ride which may call for more medication and more visits to the doctor. For some, it could even be life threatening. Stock up on meds and tissues.
