The Carbon Footprint of Email – send less to save the planet

Getting copied on useless emails is annoying but most people still do it because it costs nothing in time. He’s a trick to help your coworkers stop sending you meeting minutes for meetings that you have nothing to do with: Tell them it’s bad for the environment.

This isn’t a lie. Sending email or any thing we do online, leaves a carbon footprint. We don’t realize this because it’s really invisible to us. But typing, sending and storing emails all take up a good deal of electricity especially when being done in mass thousands of times a day.

So don’t send useless emails. Unsubscribe to lists you don’t actively need to be on. Encourage others to do the same.
