The Coming Dust Bowl – climate crisis may cause historical drought to come more often

The dust bowl was a huge event in America that changed the country forever. The original was caused by natural occurring droughts and was considered a once a century event. The climate crisis could make this rare occurrence more common.

Rising greenhouse gases are creating conditions where similar events may happen ever twenty years instead of 100. This would be devastating for agriculture and the greater food production line. Although many farmers have moved towards preserving the soil to attempt to mitigate things, this is not enough.

Reaching net zero is the only real way to prevent seeing episodes like the dust bowl repeat with such frequency. As it is a natural occurrence, it is likely to happen again, eventually, but we can make changes to ensure it doesn’t become a regular part of our history.
