Let’s take a short walk, shall we? To see how unbelievably strange the world of viral videos really is right now. The tour, which eventually leads to a video which has gathered 1 million views in just 2 days (!), starts with a small island just off the coast of Africa, called Sao Tome and Principe.
The island has a population of just 188,098 people, including the rather fetching trio you see above, called Os Untues. In 2010 a music video of theirs hit YouTube, featuring a catchy little song called Tira mão na minha Xuxa, which is based around a rhythm called Socope. Here it is.
Fast forward to earlier this week, and up pops a new track on a Portuguese YouTube channel, called Minha Xuxa. This track apparently makes fun of the original song, but for some reason it gets the Rebecca Black treatment and becomes an instant viral sensation (in probably not a great way).
Check it out (possibly mildly unsafe for work, note!)
No wonder the marketing folk tear their hair out trying to figure out how to create viral videos. There’s just no logic, dude, no logic at all.
