The Crisis of Credit Visualized – the financiapocalypse explained in 11 minutes and 10 seconds

Image

This Crisis of Credit Visualized, is a brilliant, short animation that explains the heart of the world-wide financial collapse. Funny, moving and painful. Yeah, maybe just painful. [Via Flowing Data and Information Aesthetics].

The goal of giving form to a complex situation like the credit crisis is to quickly supply the essence of the situation to those unfamiliar and uninitiated. This project was completed as part of my thesis work in the Media Design Program, a graduate studio at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.

  • Pretty good explination on the finacial side, and it does a good job of implying the greed of profits, but for slightly more complete picture, I think it requires a few more aspects. Namely, oil, war, and politics. And eventually, unsustainability.

CDOs are really just a fancy way of saying a box of I.O.U.s with interest and risk.
Once the flow of money slows, consumption slows, and everything in the capitalist system grinds to a halt.
    lovely.
