The Periodic Table of Videos – video brings dusty science to life in super charming style

The Periodic Table of Videos is so wonderful it’s not true. Ostensibly an initiative from the University of Nottingham in the UK, it has either deliberately or unwittingly delivered to us all a new superstar in the tradition of the greatest of Internet characters. Professor Martyn Poliakoff, CBE, sir you fit the picture of a Hollywood boffin in to an absolute T, but clearly you’re the real deal. Check out a few of the videos (for example the Iron one (Fe) or even the Intro video under About).

What you see is what you get here, folks, a gentleman academic who really really enjoys chemistry and science. He’s enthusiastic in a way you just don’t get nowadays in this rush dog mercenary world. Professor, we salute you and your lovely team of earnest, enthusiastic and incredibly informative colleagues on these videos! Oh sorry, did we mention that it’s actually a fascinating series of videos, with some great facts and explanations?

Bookmark this, and whenever the cynicism of life threatens to drag you down, run through a video or two and you’ll cheer up immediately. We recommend the Calcium segment, because it’s especially good for teeth and bones.

Welcome to the “Periodic Table of Videos”. Tables charting the chemical elements have been around since the 19th century – but this modern version will have a short video about each one.
