The Trap Light – a simple, elegant light source

Trap Light Large 1

There’s an ever-growing variety of outdoor solar lighting on the market. But two designers from the Netherlands have created an elegant alternative. The Trap Light uses photoluminscenct pigments embedded within hand-blown Morano glass.

This process allows the lamp, which is molded with a wooden frame, to absorb light from any external light source – be it sunlight, LED or incandescent light bulb. This fascinating lamp requires only 30 minutes of light charge to then emit up to eight hours of ambient light. The Trap Light can even be wired to have its own lightbulb within.

Though I’m not sure of the true eco-friendliness of the pigment process itself, the idea of these lamps offers a nice lighting option, particularly for those rural areas with little to no surrounding electrical lighting to light to the dark night.
