Tobii Eye Tracker – watching you, watching me…

Tobiieyetracker

The Tobii T120 Eye Tracker is a clever piece of camera/software technology embedded into a 17” TFT monitor which tracks the eye movements of a user in real time. Apparently this sort of thing is designed to watch us, as we watch things like television adverts, software programs and the like to see what we respond to. Video. I’ve got a question. If this kind of technology is so good, how is it that we continue to get rubbish software and advertising hitting our screens? Or is that being overly cynical?

The Tobii T60 and T120 Eye Trackers are integrated into a 17” TFT monitor. They are ideal for all forms of eye tracking studies with stimuli that can be presented on a screen. Get objective results testing print advertisement, TV commercials, shopping shelves, packaging design, product design and movies. Research usability of web, software and computer games. Perform psychology studies, infant studies, reading studies, vision research and more.

  • You should try out some better systems than the Tobii. There are plenty out there. Tobii over-markets their specifications, and their units never ever live up to expectations. There is some false data floating around the advertising field due to this. Try instead the better, and higher integrity, companies of SDI, Seeing Machines, or Eye Tech.

  • Interesting comment. I would like to know more about you Marianne and the claims you have there. What kind of experiences do you have?

I believe that in the last years much more academic and commercial publications were made based on the usage of Tobii systems than with any other eye tracking systems. You can check that on Google scholar research. Also regarding the customers and references that Tobii has, you will find basically the complete who-is-who in academic and commercial research. How would that be possible if the accuracy and technology would be so bad?

Please don't take this as an offence, but can you prove any of the claims you posted?

Please feel free to contact me if you want to discuss further: [email protected].

  • Interesting as well: I live in Germany, working for Tobii and never heard of a company called SDI doing eye tracking.

Does this show your competence? Do you mean: SMI??
