Touch yer toes?

This guy, Gilbert Levin, has come up with a sugar substitute that doesn’t have an aftertaste. No really, don’t leave yet. Apparently the new Tagatose stuff – which is actually a left-handed sugar – really does work. It’s currently in Pepsi Diet Slurpee in the US if you want to try it out. If you do, let me know whether it really is as good as the article claims.

‘Unlike high-intensity artificial sweeteners, tagatose looks, tastes, and cooks like sugar. It’s 92 percent as sweet as table sugar but with only 38 percent of the calories. Studies suggest it prevents weight gain and doesn’t cause cavities. It’s safe for diabetics and may even help combat the disease.’

Update: Now have their own Naturlose site with lots more info.
