United Airlines to offer recyclable insulated coffee cups

MicroGREEN's InCycle recyclable cups 2

Airlines are expanding their recycling efforts, perhaps to create a “greener” perception for consumers to admire. Although most of them lag far behind in their efforts, United Airlines is moving beyond paper and plastic. They just announced that they’ll introduce recyclable InCycle™ coffee cups to its United Club beverage service this month and on United flights beginning mid-March.

Manufactured by Washington-state technology company MicroGREEN, InCycle cups are fully recyclable and are made from up to 50 percent recycled materials. United Airlines will use them to replace their currently used Styrofoam cups.

The technology MicroGREEN uses involves created four-and-a-half InCycle cups from just one recycled water bottle in a waterless, additive-free recycling process. Because the cup is insulated, this further reduces waste by eliminating the need for a sleeve/

United is definitely upping its game. Hopefully other airlines will take note and get onboard with these as well.
