The WebServUSB. The world’s smallest web server. In a USB plug. Right, so we’re talking a web server on a keychain? Getting dizzy. From $89.95.
WebServUSB is a full featured web server programmed into flash memory a USB device. It features HTTP and FTP web services, plus a companion email server program which provides POP3 and SMTP mail services. By plugging WebServUSB into any PC with a USB port, it can enable that PC to become and Intranet (LAN) or Internet based web server. WebServUSB can provide the majority of features of a web server costing thousands of dollars all embedded in the USB flash memory.
For a moment, I thought this was a real web server, not a USB drive loaded with web serving software that you run on your laptop. Bummer!
Me too. I was thinking about plugging one end into a powered hub and an ethernet cable into the other to have a tiny self-contained web server. There’s really no story here and the headline is mis-leading. I mean if I stick some video playing software on a usb drive does it make it a USB Video Player?
On the bright side, I am sure it would be easy enough for others to come up with a free or open source version of this. Maybe using Xampp?
You can get this for free already, it is called Uniform Server. It includes: the latest versions of Apache2, Perl5, PHP5, MySQL5, and phpMyAdmin.
I discovered it atPortable USB Apps. If you have a USB key, I suggest dropping by there.
