UVision Variotronic – Adjustable tint ski goggles

Image

UVEX have applied welder’s mask technology to ski goggles with the UVision Variotronic adjustable tint ski goggles. They’re a twin-lens goggle with a LCD layer between them. Pressing the button turns the LCD darker reducing the light by 20% in 1/10th of a second. Pretty useful, if you head up the hill in the sun and it starts getting dark before you get back down again. The lenses are nanocoated and resist fogging, abrasion, block UV and are optically correct. Needs CR2032 batteries. US$250.

The UVISION Variotronic features the VALiD lens, a pioneering technology developed by Alphamicron Inc. for the US Air Force. The light lens of the UVISION Variotronic is instantly tinted dark when the on-board electronic system delivers a low dose of voltage to liquid crystals sandwiched between the double lens.
