Vista Start Menu – replace that awful Windows XP start menu and breathe free again

Vista start menu

Vista Start Menu. If you dislike the kludgy, unwieldy thing that Microsoft calls the Start Menu as much as I do, you should download this small freeware program now. Suddenly you will no longer have to trudge, scroll click by aargh scroll click, through a huge list of programs to launch your app, because it will all be nicely arranged for you via a souped up interface.

I’m not sure that it’s as good (fast?) as Launchy that we featured a few days ago, but it’s a good effort and Launchy won’t give you an overview of your installed progs like this will. I also like the instant access to the My Documents folder. Nice. There’s a $29.99 Pro version as well, which has some additional features like single click launch, but I’m not sure I need the extra stuff. I’ll run the freebie for a while to see whether it’s a keeper, but so far I’m impressed.

Vista Start Menu is the convenient alternative to the plain Start menu you find in Windows XP and Windows Vista. The program uses your cognitive abilities (visual memory, reflexes, etc.); however, while it is easily understandable for beginners, it is also highly efficient for experienced users.

  • Thanks for recommending a freeware app to get away from that default vista start menu.
