Water From Fog – fog catching provides a solid water source for drought prone areas

Everyone needs water. This is a resource that will be scarcer the more the climate crisis builds. Dry areas will be hit hard but innovation in this area is bringing a new water source to the forefront: Fog. Fog catchers are supplying dry areas with water that can be used for agriculture and even drinking with netting.

Fog catching uses condensation to extract water from fog. Large nets are set up in areas where fog collects, water condenses on the nets, the drops are collected and then the water is given to the community for farming and even drinking in some areas. This is a life changing practice for some areas like Lima, Peru.

This isn’t possible everywhere in the world but for areas that have little ground water but are positioned just right for heavy fogs, this can be utilized to provide a water source in drought prone areas. For more rural communities the water is safe enough to drink but in urban environments it is only good for warming and animals. Still, collecting this water relives the burden on the population and provides a much needed resource.
