Everyone loves weather, especially when it’s nice. We’re not so fond of it when it’s surly and nasty, but hey, we’re only human, right? Up till now our relationship with the weather has also been hampered by a fairly random prediction system, but now the power of the smartphone is trying to change things for the better.
The WeatherSignal Personal Weather Station is a free Android app which uses whatever phone sensors you have in your handset to deliver a live updated map of weather conditions in the locale.
The developers have working relationships in place with the University of Washington, Birmingham University and the British Met Office, which should hopefully mean that the results will feed into an improved weather forecasting service in general.
As with everything associated with smartphones, the results you get will be dependent on the number and type of sensors your particular phone has, but if you’re using a Samsung Galaxy S3 or S4 you should be getting just about a full readout of the conditions around you. Worth a look.
