Webu is a sharp minimalist RSS feed monitor which allows you to set up keyword searches on feeds (or websites) so you can track specific stuff you want rather than having to wade through acres of junk you don’t. So far so OK, but what makes this freeware application stand out is the fact that there’s a learning mode built-in, so over time it will start to recognise what you like and deliver it to you automatically.

I haven’t had time to test it out thoroughly yet, but if it works as advertised it could be a great way to scan a load of sites and feeds to find your favourite information. The fact that it’s delivered to you in a pop up box rather than you having to search it out is also a bonus as you can leave the program running in the background and carry on with your other work.

It may be minimalist – the main screen makes the Google search interface look positively cluttered – but it could be a hugely useful tool for those who want to keep constant track of specific areas of interest easily and quickly. Oh and of course the free part is a big bonus. Definitely worth a look.

It can also learn about the kind of news articles that interest you, and over time it will build up detailed knowledge about the kind of articles that you find interesting so that it can show you other articles it thinks you will like. You can also instruct the program to go and search the web for pages that it thinks you will be interested in.
