World Wide Vac – cleaning out your inbox? Here’s a helping hand

World Wide Vac Clean up

When you say, “I’m cleaning out my inbox” that usually means you’re dumping old emails and finally deleting the hundreds of unread “special offers” from stores you shopped at once. It’s digital so there’s not any real harm to the environment like with actual junk mail right? Well Electrolux is here to tell you you’re wrong and with the World Wide Vac, they want to help you eliminate some of your carbon footprint by helping you get a handle on your digital junk mail.

According to the company, old emails do create some CO2 emissions, likely from the use of servers and the time it takes to load and store all that useless data (you were not going to ever use those coupons, why do you hold on to them?) even if you don’t see it in your daily life. Whether this is true or not, the service will tackle your Gmail account and turn it from a bloated wasteland of spam emails into a lean, mean, communication machine. A task that would take you hours of clicking can be done in minutes with the site.

The site uses an algorithm to determine what is good and current mail and what can go in the virtual shredder. You can choose to delete it all at once forever or send it to the trash can. Up to you. When you’re finished, you can see how much CO2 you’ve eliminated. This is clearly a gimmick to draw attention to their new vacuum, but still, it’s pretty cool. World Wide Vac is a free service.
