YUMI makes it easy to create your own computer on a flash drive [Daily Freeware]

Yumi

What with all the current talk of tiny computers, it’s easy to forget that the idea of carrying around your own computing environment on a keychain is not new. Sure, very few technologies are as cool as the Raspberry Pi, or as cheap, but it’s still possible to impress the socks off your wannabe geek grandma if you know what you’re doing.

YUMI is a very cool freeware program which gives you the superhuman ability to install multiple operating systems on a humble flash memory drive. Not just install, mind you, but boot from the drive too, which is where the impressive stuff comes in. The software does all the clever stuff like setting up the front end menu of choices, and all you’ve got to do is choose which Linux systems and/or tools you want to carry around with you. Simple, effective and awesomely geek.

  • What about unetbootin? It does the same exact thing and has been around for years.
