There’s a bunch of new electric skateboards out on the market at the moment, but most of them are clunky looking cheapo units, with huge batteries and a weight to match. But now Generation 2.0 is coming to town, and these puppies are a whole new deal.
This Yuneec E-Go Electric Skateboard, for example, is a sleek, fast and lightweight ‘personal electric transporter’ which looks like it might be both useful and fun. The product will travel for up to 18 miles on a single 4 hour charge, weighs only 13 lbs and looks very similar to a standard longboard.
The ‘board also runs with a smartphone app (iOS only at the moment unfortunately) which gives you basic telemetry as well as motive navigation. But if you’re not a phone carrying type, you can just use the supplied wireless remote control to start, stop and adjust speed.
You steer the thing as with a conventional deck, by leaning your body in the desired direction, and we’re assuming you’re going to need some kind of familiarity with skateboards in general in order to avoid death or destruction on the highway. Fancy marketing videos of leggy blonde models skating around airfields does not mean it’s any safer than regular skateboarding.
The skateboard can cope with riders up to 220 lbs in weight, and costs a mere $699.00.
