Zimplit – open source website builder that works in your browser

Zimplit

Zimplit is a free open source website building browser add-on that touts simplicity as a virtue. It works from within the Internet Explorer or Firefox web browsers and comes with a range of open source design templates that can be used to get going quickly and easily.

The idea is you click on the Zimplit button in your browser toolbar in order to edit. The software is fairly simple to use (demo here) but what you gain in ease is a little lost in flexibility. In practice I found it not that easy to use for layout, which means that you’ll be relying on the pre-built templates a lot, which is fair enough. Most people want little more than a template editor anyway, for which this tool is admirably suited. Definitely worth a look.

Zimplit is the easiest CMS (Content Management System) ever made. Zimplit is extremely lightweight, simple and customizable. It’s easy to install, and easy to use via a simple web interface. Zimplit consists of only one core engine file. And of course – it’s FREE. We made Zimplit for normal people, not for IT gurus, and we really hope that it will make your web creation easy and fun.

  • Zimplit is not really "open source", but a commercial product. If it were, people could download the source code.
