2 sec Firefox video bug fix – sort out that annoying freeze frame, Farah

If you’ve ever suffered the 2 second YouTube video freeze in Firefox under Windows XP, then here’s a couple of cures to try. Number 1 usually works best for me. Wish they’d fix the problem though, ‘cause it’s a pain.

  1. Ctrl-Alt-Del – Task manager – Processes – highlight Firefox – Right mouse click – End Process Tree.
  2. Navigate to Windows – System32 – Macromed – Flash – click on npswf32 FlashUtil.exe.

Another suggestion I’ve seen is to copy the file NPSWF32.dll from C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins.

  • Oh so it’s not just me then? Thanks Nige.

  • Oh, there is an another way, which seems to be a little less complicated:

    1. Goto tools -> add-ons -> plugins
    2. disable flash plugin
    3. refresh youtube webpage
    4. go back to tools -> add-ons -> plugins and enable flash plugin
    5. refresh the youtube webpage….tada!

  • It’s not a FF thing, the same happens in Opera. I read that some of the newer versions of the Flash player have an issue but I didn’t try to install the older, recommended one to see if it works.

  • @Jen, you’re right, the forum post says it also appears to affect IE as well as Safari and Navigator.

  • You could also try the new Flash 10 Version. Adobe released it today.

  • Copying the .dll file has worked for me.

  • Funnily enough I used No 1 yesterday and it worked perfectly. Weird thing this bug…

  • Good to know others getting this. I thought it was my new sysadmin at work blocking content!
