Software repellent

From the ‘I can’t really believe this’ dept. The Ferret reported on this fellow’s anti mosquito software system way back at the beginning of the year, and put it all down to a quirk of some bored Far Eastern geek mind. But no, now we learn that Thai developer Saranyou Punyaratanabunbhu has only gone and updated it to make it repel cockroaches and rats. OK now, enough’s enough. Anyone can take a joke, but using your PC as a massive…

Playstation 3 details revealed!

Wow, the Sony PR machine is certainly working overtime on feeding the media with next gen Playstation 3 console news. First off is this Red Herring report which talks about the proposed product’s new processor which – gasp – could deliver 1000 times more power than the PS2 CPU. Good golly gosh! The piece also talks about TIVO like television recording and stuff which the console will *probably* do when it arrives. For those who want even more in-depth info…

Micro Aerial Vehicles

I confess that I just love the kind of things you can do with miniature digital cameras, and these MAVs are a prime example. OK, so they’re being touted as a military tool, but I think that pretty soon they will provide all sorts of recreational fun and frolics, once prices and the technology settle down a little. [via madville] Here’s some more info and some cool video clips of these little beauties in action (showing off their vision guided…

Forget me not!

This New York Times report (you’ll need to register) takes a look at the astonishing number of laptop computers that are now being left behind at airport security belts by harassed, stressed, execs rushing to catch their flights. Get this – ‘At Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, 330 laptops were left behind between September and April’ ….and….’in Denver, for instance, all but 20 of the 600 or so laptops left behind since September have been reunited with their owners’. 330? 600? In…

PhotoClip

PhotoClip looks to be an interesting little addition to the digital camera market. It features a 1.3 megapixel still digicam, MP3 player, video capture, voice recording and Webcam in one. The current model doesn’t have an LCD preview screen, but the upcoming PhotoClip PhC 7000 series will, although I’m not sure what the price premium will be. The current model costs around 175.00 retail, features compact flash storage and works off two AA batteries.

AirScooter

That man Woody Norris (yes, he of the HSS sound system below) is definitely a busy bee. Here’s another of his ventures, the AirScooter. It’s yet another attempt at letting man fly to work over the heads of his poor long suffering car bound colleagues, only this time the flying is below 50 feet and in an ultralight that will cost around the same as a top end SUV. Also here’s a good article from Popular Science which looks at…

Net2Roam

The folks at 192.com have branched out and launched their own version of the GRIC global ISP roaming service called Net2Roam. According to the blurb it covers 17,000 dial up locations in over 150 countries. They call it pay as you go, but it does incorporate a service fee as well as access charges. Still it’s probably worth noting if you’re a traveller. In any event it looks to be cheaper than the iPass based PDA Roaming service.
