Game on.

The Orsinal site offers a selection of enchantingly presented online games for you or your young child’s delectation. Beautifully done and oodles of simple fun.

Tag a bag.

A New Zealand company claims that it has created RFID tags which work much more effectively than current versions, with longer range and lower costs. The Sandtracker technology ‘promises to allow data to be read from unpowered RFID tags from up to five metres away, regardless of their orientation, and allows more than 4000 RFID tags to be read simultaneously by a single reader. The current maximum range of RFID devices is about a metre…’ I think that we can…

Five Mile High?

The Paper Airplane project is a P2P collaborative community which uses some clever Java browser technology to provide full collective editing and suchlike via a custom website. It looks to be rather a neat idea, rather like a super Wiki on steroids.

Svelte tech.

Look I don’t care what this does, it’s gorgeous. OK, I’ll read the blurb….let’s see…aha…it’s ‘a multimedia video TV server solution’… that boasts ‘…state-of-the-art technology’… and comes in…ah….‘several networked components.’ So there you have it – The Lancaster. An Ethernet connectable hard disk component living room system that can receive digital and analogue TV with PVR functionality, stream PC media and looks like it was designed totally in Scandinavian. Sounds like a winner to me, but I’m clearly biased.

Feel the need?

Not so much a boy toy, as a statement of intent. So for those who feel the need…Rolling Thunder. 0 to 60 in 3 secs, 2600 ft range, 30 inches long. Complete with small shovel and plastic bag to sweep the bits into after the first meeting with your neighbour’s garage wall. [Thanks Ben]

Winging it!

Wouldn’t you know it. You wait around for ages for a tiny MP3 player with integral speaker and suddenly two come along at the same time. But this time – best Monty Python voice – IN STEREO! The Butterfly flash drive. USB drive, MP3 player, radio, voice recorder and not just one, but TWO teeny speakers. Hold me ma, I’m feeling kinda dizzy.

CHAD attack.

There’s lots of home automation systems kicking around, but CHAD (Central Home Automation Director) from Improving Tomorrow looks quite neat. The software interface looks very cool and understandable and the product seems to have combined a fully integrated set of features without the usual compromises. Check out the demos and interactive trial. Modular packages range from $190.00 and $9.00 a month for Web access, which is a lot cheaper than the Pluto system too! ‘For each family member or individual…

Dial a site?

The Phone Dial Browser is an interesting experiment. Could it catch on? ‘To use it, one dials an IP address rather than typing a URL. Dots are entered by pressing a button, external to the dial.’

Tuneful take ons.

I confess that I don’t really get this site 100% (an About page would be useful guys!). TuneYard – ‘where garage bands come to play’. I think it’s some kind of scratch pad for music tracks in progress. No doubt when you complete them with the help of this community, you can post them to iCompositions. Or something.

Lost?

The Can’t Find on Google site is a wonderfully simple idea. Log on and enter in those search terms which did not return any useful results to you. The interface is a bit kludgy, but it’s a neat way to identify the type of searches that Google is not good at.

Link-tastic!

Wow, just done a quick check of The Ferret’s links with the free Xenu’s Link Sleuth proggie and there’s 9000 links on the site. Over 6000 external and with around 450 broken (which I assume are changed product pages, companies out of business and the like).

Heads free handset?

The Hands-Free Headset with Recorder is just that – a mobile phone hands free headset with an integrated digital voice recorder. Duh! Modern convergent technology at just $89.95. ‘It’s also handy for recording significant conversations or just simply for making important notes to yourself just like you would with a normal voice recorder. You can even download recordings to your computer…16MB of flash memory gives you up to 120 minutes of recording time.’

Sk8r aid.

Shirley there is something inherently wrong with the concept of riding an electric skateboard? No? Well OK then, here is the E-SK8 Board. 199.95 ($361.10). ‘The incredible e-sk8 is a 4ft-long aluminium ‘streetcarving’ board with a nifty electric motor tucked under its handsome tail! Simply push the button on the front of the board with your leading foot (goofy or fakie you decide) and the 120w motor engages, propelling you along the pavement at speeds of up to 12…

Preggers.

Preggers is a small free program from Nigel Cross which helps you ‘calculate the optimal dates to conceive in order to maximize your chances of getting pregnant.’ In the right hands, kinda useful. I suppose that it’s purely coincidental that young Nigel has suddenly found himself with a set of bouncing twins on hand?

MP3 redux.

Well hoot nanny! The good folk at GarageBand.com have announced a free ‘recover your MP3.com account‘ service, which let’s MP3.com refugees restore their site and re-establish their song hosting. Good on ’em! Apparently the massive MP3 database was not lost to the world after all. Oh and by the way, I’ve updated the OneMillion tracks page a little to include some new stuff.
