The Non-Destructive Windows XP fix.

The No-Reformat, Non-Destructive Total-Rebuild Windows XP Fix. Fred the Langa reckons you can ‘non destructively’ repair a dodgy Windows XP installation while leaving your existing applications untouched and fully working. I’m sure I’ve tried this and failed miserably, but maybe I did something wrong. You have a go.  But it’s worth exploring because this option lets you completely and nondestructively rebuild, repair, or refresh an existing XP installation while leaving already-installed software alone (no reinstallation needed!). It also leaves user…

GenPets.

GenPets. Oh yes, they might be a hoax right now, but how long children, how long?  That’s right, Genpets are not toys or robots. They are living, breathing genetic animals. We use a process called “Zygote Micro Injection” which is quickly becoming a favourable method to combine DNA, or to insert certain proteins from different species. Most notably it was used in 1997 to splice mice with bioluminescent jellyfish (link) and has since been used to create glowing rabbits, pigs,…

Pool safety at hand.

The SenTAG Pool Safety Device. Pretty neat idea, a wrist worn depth and motion sensor which transmits an emergency signal if the wearer/swimmer gets into trouble. Best bit is that it doesn’t cost the commercial pool owner that much, around £1 to £4.00 an hour to lease. Good job. [Via Gizmag]  The SenTAG wristband has considerable processing power within that continually monitors depth relative to the surface and several characteristics of motion. There inputs are used within a number of interlocking ‘rules’…

Hi-Hi Fi.

What surprises most about the Grundig CDS 5000 DEC micro hi-fi system, is not the fact that it has an integrated – keep your dog under control, madam – sub-woofer, nor the USB port and SD/MMC card reader for MP3 music loveiness. Not even the CD/RW MP3, CD-DA player. No, what’s extraordinary is how ordinary it is. In this new hyper convergent, do it all, home consumer electronics world. Around $250.00.

Teleblaster.

The Teleblaster. Ah…so some crazy Russians figure that the best way to watch television is if it’s distorted or pixellated. So they process the signal and send it to a rather bizarre telly, and sit back with smug grins. What a thing is creativity, eh? Huzzah!  TeleBlaster allows watching TV programms both in a usual mode and in a special video signal processing mode, the processing algorithm being loaded from the external flash card. TeleBlaster also allows generating videoeffects synchronously with the…

Mini Table Football.

Mini Table Football. Nice looking aluminium, stainless steel and green felt ‘foosball’ table. Playable too apparently, although who knows if it can match the sheer adrenaline pumped excitement of an evening watching Scunthorpe United at work? £8.95.  There’s no comparison to the usual wobbly plastic products: This mini-stadium is made of sparkling aluminium and stainless steel. Four soft non-slip rubber feet support it on any even surface. The game is played with a solid metal “ball”. This – according to…
