Aiptek Pocket 5MP DV Camera – nightshot, anti shake goes budget

The Aiptek Pocket 5MP DV Camera is billed as the ‘smallest multifunctional DV supporting video stabiliser and nightshot’. In itself this would not be hugely innovative were it not for the fact that we’re talking a £74.99 price point here. Now of course, *saying* you support these features and getting a decent non blurry image out of a cheap box are two different things, aren’t they? But even so…  The smallest multi-functional DV supporting video stabiliser and nighshot • MPEG-4…

Watchphone frenzy – talk to the wrist, ‘cos the phone ain’t listenin’

The WatchPhone M300. Isn’t that typical, you wait around for years and all of a sudden up pops two watch phones at the same time. Tsk. I’ve got to say, in terms of sheer cool usefulness, these have got to have the edge on an iPhone. Especially once they bring on some decent sized memory for the MP3 player (or a microSD slot). $305.00.  Phonebook SMS (receive only) 1″OLED, 65K Screen GSM 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 Bluetooth: A2DP, AVRCP Music: MP3,…

GlowFur – wearable art…or not…

They’re pitching GlowFur as ‘wearable art’, but actually art is probably not the right word. Perhaps ‘wearable embarrassment instead? Anyhoo, if you’re into shining like a beacon down your local club night ding-dongs, this is definitely for you. Me, I’d rather skulk moodily alone in a corner somewhere.  This site was developed to bring the world this most fashionable wearable art. Unlike anything you have seen before, the original GlowFur apparel is setting a new standard of wearable art. As…

The Sandy Email Assistant – make your email service useful at last?

Sandy is an email assistant service. Hard to tell whether it actually works, since it’s in closed beta right now, but the idea seems to be well thought out. You can use ‘her’ to turn your emails into to-do lists, reminders and contact and calendaring management just by using the cc box. Worth keeping tabs on for the future, methinks.  Problem is: an email inbox is little more than a bucket for catching incoming messages. Even with a decent sorting-and-filing…

Embiggen – expand those tiny URLs

Embiggen is a clever bit of technology that lets you expand those tinyURLs that are dotted around the place to make sure they’re not leading to somewhere dangerous. There’s a publisher version for website owners, but the interesting bit for most people will be the browser bookmarklet which you can use to check URLs yourself.  TinyURL is a great service, but who knows what’s lurking on the other side of those links? They could be pointing at sites you’ve already visited,…

iBall GPRS SMS Globe – cool text message viewer

The iBall GPRS SMS Globe. Send text messages from any mobile phone to this globe and it will display them on the 360 viewable screen. The unit contains a SIM card and 64 MB of memory for storing messages and uses 85 ‘super bright’ LED bulbs to do the display stuff. This is actually a pretty cool product application if you need to distribute information to a room quickly from lots of roaming agents with mobile phones. I’m thinking things…

Crystal Weather Station – easy read weather man

The upcoming Oregon Scientific Crystal Weather Station looks like an interesting concept. Laser engraved 3D icons in crystal with colour highlighting and a radio controlled digital clock in a slinky form factor. And the ‘change mode with a wave of the hand’ is just icing on the cake really. Wonder when it will hit the stores?  Weather station with laser engraved 3D icons in crystal. View the weather forecast at a glance with colour illumination. Precise, worldwide time keeping with…

A surprising day spent using the HTC Touch…

So I’ve just had a pretty typical working day with the HTC Touch handset, and thought you might like some initial impressions. First off, it was in use from 5am in the morning (catching an early flight) until 10.00 pm at night (long day!). Battery life remaining at the end of the day = Around 25%. Applications used = Mobile Word, Destinator 6.0 GPS navigation software, default MP3 music player, phone (3 calls + SMS), camera (one shot), WiFi (failed),…

Sansa Shaker MP3 Player – shake, rattle and soul

The Sansa Shaker MP3 Player is an unremarkable beast, save for the fact that it comes with a ‘Shake Feature’ which lets you skip a track by shaking the unit. Now far be it for us to comment on the strategic decisions of multinational consumer tech companies, but do you really want product abuse to become a long term feature of your marketing message? What next, cars that you start by kicking them in the rear? $39.95.  The shake feature…

Full size Camarasaurus dinosaur – the ultimate home security

The Full Size Camarasaurus Dinosaur Replica is 18 foot tall and guaranteed to scare the living bits out of your neighbours when they open their curtains the morning after you’ve had it installed. Either that or it’ll trigger a hasty visit from your local constabulary. Whatever, you’ll need to stump up £27,999.99 and wait three to four months for delivery, so start clearing the space already.  In real life no one has had the fortune of seeing a real dinosaur, so no…
