Thermometer Spatula does the work of two tools

I don’t know about your house, but around here summer means cooking on the grill. Hamburgers, hot dogs, steak, you name it. While all of these things can easily made in the kitchen, you just won’t get that same taste on a stove. If you’re the kind of cook that likes to be precise, you probably use a meat thermometer to make sure your food is the correct temperature. Well, now you don’t need a separate tool to do this….

Polaroid Instant Mobile Printer lets you share pictures in just seconds

The great thing about having decent cameras on most mobile phones is that you can snap a picture no matter where you are. Then you can upload it to your Facebook or Flickr with just a few taps. But what if you actually want to print of some of those images? That was the beauty behind Polaroid cameras during their reign. You could snap a picture, then hold a physical copy of it within seconds. The same company responsible for…

Make your own fog horn from plumbing parts and a hand pump

What do you do when you need to make a really loud and annoying sound to get someone’s attention? Two of the easiest things that come to mind are an air horn and a vuvuzela. The problem with the former is that they only last for so long before needing refilled. And after last year’s World Cup, I don’t think anyone wants to hear a vuvuzela again. So what other options do you have? Why not build your own fog…

Tatooine Sand Wristwatch looks cool, and helps save the Lars homestead

One of the things I love about the original Star Wars movies is just how much effort was put into creating realistic and believable sets and props. Back in the 70’s, they couldn’t just place actors in front of a green screen and film everything that way. To create the world of Tattooine, Lucas traveled to Tunisia and ventured out into the desert. Here he built the Lars homestead, which to this day still stands. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as…

Instantbird – The open source IM client

I’m a huge fan of open source software. Aside from my operating system, I do try my best to go the open source route when I can. In fact, I’m writing this in Open Office, as I don’t see any benefit from buying Microsoft Office at an outrageous price. For my IM client, I’ve used Trillian for many years, but I’m now considering switching to Instantbird, an open source client that has just recently been released. Like many of the…

The XFX War Pad isn’t your average mousepad

Mouse pads might not seem like the most interesting of topics. After all, it’s some sort of mat that sits on your desk and makes sure that your mouse glides around smoothly. Aside from some having wrist rests, you really don’t see much deviation from pad to pad (unless you count the cute kittens or puppies printed on them). However, this new War Pad from XFX looks rather interesting. Not content just to sit on your desk, this mousepad actually…

Rubik’s Cube Speaker lets you play music, not games

If you’re anything like me, your office probably has a lot of geeky and/or nostalgic items sitting around. From Star Wars figures to classic gaming pieces, it’s anything from dull and boring. What is really fun is when you can find something that not only fits with the theme of your room, but also provides function. Take, for instance, this Rubik’s Cube Speaker. This speaker will connect to just about any music source, via a stereo jack. Power comes from…

Nokia Play 360 portable speaker packs a lot of features in a small package

I don’t usually get very excited about portable speakers. The reason for this is that while they are small enough to take with you, most of them have terrible sound. I’ve tried a number of them, and most of them barely outperform my phone, which isn’t worth the hassle. Nokia however, has piqued my interest with their new Play 360 portable speaker. This device is packed with some pretty cool features, which make it seem like something worthwhile to keep…

Protect your bike tire from flats with a seat belt

If you’ve ever been riding your bike and gotten a flat while you’re far from home, you know how much of a pain it can be to deal with. At least with your car, you generally have a spare, and the tools to change it. On a bike, however, this is rarely the case. Thus, the best way to deal with a flat is to simply not get one in the first place. How do you do that? With a…

Pencil Dice lets you roll a saving throw with your writing utensil

I’ll admit to being quite the geek. The type that plays D&D, among other games. Thus, rolling dice isn’t something terribly uncommon for me to do. I have a nice bag with a variety of different of polyhedral dice that I take with me when I play such games. Wouldn’t it be cool if you could use other everyday objects to randomly determine a number? Well, with this Pencil Dice, you can. If you think about it, most standard pencils…

Use File Repair to freely repair corrupted files

How many times have you tried to open a very important document, only to find out that it is corrupted? If there is a backup of the file that you can easily retrieve, it generally isn’t a big deal. However, if it is the only one you posses, you can be in for a huge headache. Thankfully, there is software out there that can help you repair such files and recover your seemingly lost data. A piece of freeware simply…

There are a lot of ways to have fun while out in a large body of water. Boats, skis, inner tubes, surf boards, jet skis and even good old-fashioned swimming are all a great way to enjoy a summer day. World’s Smallest Clothes Iron may be tiny, but still gets the job done

How often do you actually iron your clothes? Since I don’t work in an office that requires dress shirts and pants, I don’t really ever iron anything. I will admit that there have been a few times where I wouldn’t mind being able to quickly get the wrinkles out of something. However, these times aren’t enough for me to justify keeping a big iron sitting in my closet. Then again, there might be room for this World’s Smallest Clothes Iron….

Use HardlyWork.in to browse Facebook covertly at work

I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook. I was behind the curve in even getting an account, mostly because despite my love of the internet, I really didn’t feel the need to be that connected to so many people. Unfortunately, I found that many people would rather simply post a status update than actually tell people about somewhat important events. Thus, I created an account, and spend more time than is necessary browsing the site. Thankfully, I can do it…

Doodle Tablecloth makes dinner more entertaining

Growing up, we were always taught not to play with our food. The problem as a kid was that dinner was always a very boring time. Thus, the logical choice was to poke and prod our food until it seemed far more interesting than it was. So since we all know how bored kids get at the table, why not give them something to entertain themselves with while they’re there? No, I’m not talking about a TV or video games….
