Dead spots suck. When WiFi first appeared they promised us massive range, no problems with obstructions and all sorts of impressive speed stuff. But the fact is WiFi signals are fussier than your Aunt Dolly on a hot day in July; a single flimsy partition wall is enough to stop the signal dead, which can be really annoying if all you want to do is kick back next door and watch some YouTube on your tablet in peace.

BlockAid DNS Setter destroys government attempts to block websites [Freeware]
Everyone wants to control the Internet, from tinpot dictators to the entertainment industry, uneducated legislators and the rest. The latest tactic is to force Internet service providers to block off access to websites that are considered ‘infringing’ in some way or another. Despite the technology people telling them this is futile, they’re still intent on pushing misguided legislation, which is where a new freeware tool steps in and makes a mockery of the whole exercise.
Read MoreEasy Shovel makes for effortless snow, sand or dirt shovelling
This Easy Shovel accessory is one of those innovative gadgets that immediately makes you say, ‘if it works as good as it seems, why don’t shovel makers offer it as a default accessory?’ The adjustable strap is attached to the shaft of a conventional shovel via a Velcro collar, and you then use the strap to gain extra leverage and so save yourself from back pain when you’re shovelling dirt, sand, snow or whatever. Sometimes the simple ideas are the best? The little gidget…
Read MoreClassic Super Famicom Controller For Wii takes you way back
Having grown up playing SNES, I can’t help but miss it sometimes. I’ve used the Xbox 360, PS3, and the like, but nothing quite compares to those golden years of gaming. Surely there are others out there who feel the same way, and yearn for those simpler times. Just holding the controller can bring back some fond memories, so why not do just that?

Let’s face it, we spend way too much time sitting in front of our computers. Living a sedentary lifestyle is definitely not good for us, but if it’s your job to be in front of a computer, then there’s not a whole lot you can do about it. Taking a break is always nice, but if you really get into your work, you’ll likely forget to get up and move about until you’ve finished the workday.

When you write on a capacitive touch screen, such as an iPad, a stylus is a much more useful tool than your finger. It leaves no oily smudges, and doesn’t have a giant hand blocking everything you’re trying look at from your vision. The only issue you may face is that they aren’t very good about being comfortable for long term use.

You know that painful itching you sometimes feel when you’re out and about in dry weather? Where it feels like there are tiny grains of sand lodged behind your eyelids which refuse to come out no matter how hard you blink or rub. Yeah, not very nice is it? There’s any number of reasons why we get dry eyes. In some cases it’s a clinical issue, in others environmental, but now there’s a brave attempt to deal with the problem using an…
Read MoreSwitch To Mac makes it super easy to migrate your data from PC to Mac
We don’t enjoy platform wars. What computer or phone or car you use is pretty irrelevant really. Just as long as it delivers value to your life and serves you reliably then that’s fine, right? We don’t see why people have to get so angry about this feature or that feature, or why my version is better than yours. Which is why we’re pleased to see that there’s a nice new tool to make it easy to move your data from PC…
Read MoreZType is a brilliantly addictive way to learn to type while having fun
If you use a computer you should be able to type. Not just hunt and peck either, but proper multiple finger typing where you don’t even have to look at the keyboard. Most people tend to just manage the two-finger plunk of course, mostly because it takes time and effort to learn to do it properly. But now this new little browser based game could help.
Read MoreWunderMap is an interactive weather map on steroids
What is it about the weather that’s so fascinating? Sure it’s nice to know whether it’s going to rain, but apart from that who needs to know the wind direction at 2.30pm? We reckon it comes from our primordial past when man worked with the elements to survive harvest panics and stuff like that. We also suspect that weather forecasting hasn’t really improved that much since the days when a Shaman threw some bones in the fire, but tell you…
Read MoreQuirky Cordies keep your cables neat and tidy
We oftentimes use every available USB port on our computer to charge this, or transfer files from that, which is all good and well. However, if even one cord isn’t in use, it seems to have a tendency to slither its way off the side of your desk, and into the dusty abyss laden with cables behind your work station. This is a source of great frustration for many of us, and while you might try to MacGyver something to…

When you’re having a terrible day, ice cream is a wonderful pick me up. Not to say that you should overindulge on tons of this sweet treat when you’re feeling down, but it is nice every now and then. However, should you go to the freezer with a craving and find out your beloved dessert is half-eaten, someone is going to have to explain themselves.
Read MoreCordLite will prevent you from grasping for your charger cable at night
When going to bed, it is common practice to start charging your phone right before you doze off. It would be beneficial to plug it in before you lay in bed and turn off the lights, but then you wouldn’t be able to respond to those last few text messages and emails. As soon as you grab the cable and lock the screen on your phone, your eyes start adjusting to the darkness, and you realize you don’t know what…
