The Uppercup – hipsters everywhere may rejoice

You’re to the local coffee spot to grab the usual, and on your way out, a text rolls in. For those of us that are fine with typing in portrait mode, this is no biggie. One hand will deal with the phone, and the other can nurse your newly acquired caffeinated beverage. There are speed texters out there though that think anything aside from landscape mode simply won’t do.

SunnyBAG Business bags are sleek, chic, and professional

We’re all worried about our phones dying at a crucial moment in the day. About to go into a surprise meeting and need to let your family know you’ll be home later than expected? That’s not going to work if it died because you were playing games and texting during lunch break. Plugging your phone into the nearest outlet will not be well received with the bigwigs. What if you had a way to charge your mobile device wherever you…

Touch Speaker – yep, this is definitely the portable speaker we’ve been waiting for… [Review]

Boy are there a lot of portable speakers around. We’ve covered our fair share of them too over the years, so we must take a bit of blame. There’s clearly a demand for amplified speakers to boost the sound of our phones, but up till now they’ve all had one major hassle, you have to connect them in some way. Either by Bluetooth pairing, or by plugging in a cable of some sort. Well no longer, peeps.

VinePeek – WARNING: compulsive video voyeurism, 6 seconds at a time

Look, if you’ve got anything you want doing for the next 2 hours, for goodness sake don’t…repeat…don’t go to the VinePeek site. The problem is you’ll get sucked into a world full of 6 second video clips culled from the new Twitter Vine service, and it’s not going to let you go. It’s compulsive, addictive and actually should be made illegal. Seriously. Quick warning, it’s unmoderated, which means *anything* could show up. Including cats and worse. Aaargh…

Paper Straws – What’s the point?

We all get a “to-go” beverage every now and then. It’s not something we really give much thought to, but there are a lot of materials that go into the cups, lids, and straws that house your beverage. If this factoid bothers you, then there’s a way that you can help lessen your contribution to a landfill. It may be a tiny gesture, but these Paper Straws are both biodegradable and compostable. They have designs that were inspired by birch…

RetroShare – the very best private communication suite for you, your friends and your business [Freeware]

Web services like Facebook and Twitter are very nice, but if you object to splashing your name and personal details all over cyberspace, you’ll probably be a little wary of committing your whole life to them. Especially if you’re living in a hostile environment where government snooping can lead to nasty consequences, even if you’re not doing anything illegal.

Adioso – innovative flight planner lets casual travelers get the very best price

There’s clearly some sort of massive upheaval going on in the travel world, if the rash of new flight planning applications are anything to go by. Our guess is aggressive cost cutting is masking a slow but steady fall in numbers, which is forcing the industry to sponsor new ways to attract customers. One way to do this is make backend flight routing data more easily available to app makers.
